This teaching as a training course is one of the formations, specific and practical, given by the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes since 1994.

REASONS

- The requests are every year more numerous to acquire such a kind of formation (e.g. 85 requests for the 2001 session).
- Now no teaching structure exists in that field on the Mediterranean periphery while cetology is developing and job opportunities (going on board, researches, financings) are less and less rare.

AIMS AND INTERESTS

- To respond to a real need (and which is increasing) by giving basic knowledge and a formation on the life of cetaceans, the different study techniques that are applied to them and the protection measures.
- To form persons likely to intervene in canvassing conduct by research organisms and needing numerous staff (census at sea, behaviour studies, stranding,...), or to participate in association activities.
- To identify the most motivated applicants and to offer them the possibility to acquire qualifications (from technician to doctor) which allows them to integrate themselves in a growing subject. The EPHE can assume these complementary formations (specific diplomas).

APPLICANTS TO WHOM THE TRAINING COURSE IS OPEN

- Twenty or so people from countries alongside the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea.
- The applicants are selected on CVs and motivation letters.

DATES, DURATION AND PLACE

- The training course generally takes place during February or April Holidays,
- From Monday to Saturday (6 days),
- And takes place at the Station Méditerranéenne de l'Environnement Littoral (Sète).
