How to get to Pelayo

By car:
- from Biarritz (about 1 350 km, most of the trip with highways or 4 lane roads)
. stay on the highway until San Sebastan (40 km)
. the highway goes to Madrid through Burgos (530 km)
. drive around Madrid, and stay on the highway till Granada (450 km)
. follow the highway till Malaga (160 km)
. drive along the coast to Algeciras (150 km, 40 of which is off the highway)
. take the direction of Tarifa (road N 340 - E 5), about 20 km passed Algeciras you will arrive in Pelayo
. when you are in Pelayo, follow the pharmacy's indication, once you are in front of the pharmacy, go up the street and turn left before the school (with yellow walls). If you see a blue bridge for pedestrians on which it says "Bienvenido a Algeciras", you need to take the road that goes down just next to it, on the left when you are arriving from Algeciras. Then turn right when you get to the school
. CIRCE's house is in front of the school at number 3!
- from Perpignan (about 1 470 km, most of it on highways or 4 lane roads) :
. the highway goes to Valencia through Barcelona (550 km)
. follow the highway or 4 lane road to Granada driving through Alicante and Murcia (610 km)
. follow the hightway to Malaga (160 km)
. drive along the coast to Algeciras (150 km, 40 of which is off the highway)
. take the direction of Tarifa (road N 340 - E 5), about 10 km passed Algeciras you will arrive in Pelayo
. when you are in Pelayo, you have to turn left at the Km 97 (be careful NOT to turn 100m before!!, turn exactely at the Km 97), go up the street and turn left before the school (with yellow walls). If you see a blue bridge for pedestrians on which it says "Bienvenido a Algeciras", you need to take the road that goes down just next to it, on the left when you are arriving from Algeciras. Then turn right when you get to the school

By bus:
Coach or bus companies propose trips from different European or Spanish cities to Algeciras. Once you are in Algeciras, there are two bus station: one is along the harbour (estacion portillo), the other is 200m from there in front of the train station (Comes). Buses to Tarifa leave from this station and stop in Pelayo (price around 1 euro), follow the red line on the map here under. When you stop in Pelayo, you have to turn left at the Km 97 (be careful NOT to turn 100m before!!, turn exactely at the Km 97), go up the street and turn left before the school (with yellow walls). If you see a blue bridge for pedestrians on which it says "Bienvenido a Algeciras", you need to take the road that goes down just next to it, on the left when you are arriving from Algeciras. By train:
There are direct trains from Madrid to Algeciras (about 6 hours). Once you are in Algeciras, the bus station Comes is right in front (see map above). Buses to Tarifa leave from this station and stop in Pelayo (price around 1 euro). When you stop in Pelayo, you have to turn left at the Km 97 (be careful NOT to turn 100m before!!, turn exactely at the Km 97), go up the street and turn left before the school (with yellow walls). If you see a blue bridge for pedestrians on which it says "Bienvenido a Algeciras", you need to take the road that goes down just next to it, on the left when you are arriving from Algeciras. By plane:
Malaga is the closest airport. It is then a 1.45 hour drive to Algeciras, most of which is on highways or 4 lane roads (it is possible to rent a car in Malaga airport). There are regular flights from Madrid and other European cities and buses will take you from Malaga airport to Algeciras. Regular buses (every 30 minutes) leave the airport to the central bus station of Malaga (price is 1 euro). Then, from Malaga (estacion autobus centro) to Algeciras, there are direct buses (via Marbella) at 06.45, 10.45, 11.30, 11.30, 12.45, 13.35, 15.15, 15.30, 20.00, 21.45 every day (price is around 10 euros, warning the timetable is given as an indaction of the frequence of buses, these can change!). Be careful when you book your flight that you will have enough time to do the trip between Malaga and Algeciras
Your luggage
This list does not include personal belongings, it only
mentions those items too important to be forgotten:
- Suggested clothing onboard: shorts, T shirt, tennis shoes or boat shoes, but
you must always bring warm clothes in case it becomes windy or cool: trousers,
pullover, waterproof jacket or wind jacket (weatherproof jacket and boots are
not necessary),
- swimsuit and towel are welcome, and why not goggles and fins (although you
will not use them at sea),
- a small backpack to bring your daily needs onboard (no suitcase),
- sun hat or cap are strongly recommended,
- sun glasses are compulsory,
- sun screen necessary, even if it is cloudy (high S.P.F recommended),
- binoculars if available.
